East India Trading Company X Cash Coin, (1808)

Madras Presidency East India Company X Cash coin dated 1808. The antique copper coin displays the East India Company coat of arms on its obverse; two lions with St. George''s cross on the crest and flags, and a motto reading "Auspicio Regis et Senatus Anglia" (translation "By the Authority of the King and Parliament of England."). The coin''s value "Ten cash make two Falus" is written in Persian on the reverse. Many of the remaining 1808 Madras Presidency East India Company X Cash coins have been rescued from the bottom of the English Channel.

The “Admiral Gardner” was a three masted sailing ship that left London for India on January 24, 1809. It ran into a storm at the mouth of the English Channel and sank. In 1984, the wreck was found and partially salvaged; a sealed barrel full of these coins was recovered.

This coin has a great patina, I was given the coin as a gift many years ago. The coin is set in a custom made sterling silver setting. Its very unique!
